Jean Skoggard
Landscape paintings by three generations of Skoggard family artists.
Toronto Ontario

Jean Ross Skoggard (1917-2003) was born and educated in Toronto, Canada. She served in the RCAF and and studied Chinese painting when she lived in Peking, China in 1948-'49. She met her husband, Bruno Skoggard, there. They raised four boys in Cold Spring Harbor, New York .

During that time she showed regularly at the Harbour Gallery in New York and at the Picture Loan Society and Eaton's College Street in Toronto.

Her work is in numerous private collections in the U.S. and Canada.
Arvid Johanson (Skoggard) was born in Petio, Sweden in 18--. He studied in Stockholm and won a prix de Rome to study in Italy. He changed his name to Arvid Skoggard to distinguish himself from a rival artist also called Arvid Johanson in Stockholm at the time. He emigrated to the United States around 1923 and settled with his family on Dean Street in Brooklyn, N.Y. supporting them by working as a house painter. My father, Bruno, said "Pop" worked all through the Depression by bidding low on jobs and mixing his own paint out of linseed oil and pigment. He also kept working as a fine artist and had several commissions to paint frescoes in commercial spaces in Manhattan and houses in the suburbs. He died in the early 1950s of coronary disease. Ross MacKay Skoggard was born in 1949 in China. His bio can be seen at rskoggard.artspan.com
